Version 3.7 - 8th February 2002

Restructured web site to accurately reflect SRCA and relationship to original applet and web pages. Restructured each web page to standard format, and made use of SSI. SRCA application remains at version '4.0'.

Version 3.6 - 18 January 2002

Tested SR-CA application on SuSe Linux. Moved web pages to new site (www.softrise.co.uk hosted on Ghoulnet), and had a bit of a tidy up in the process.

Version 3.5 - 12 December 2001

Fixed problem where Netscape 6.2 would not run applet (I suspect this affected other Browsers that use Sun's Java plug-in) by compiling CA applet classes using Sun Java JDK 1.3. Linked CA pages to some of my other web sites/pages.

Added SrCa version 4.0 application details and download. Minor improvements to page layout, font sizes and text.

Version 3.3 - 21 December 1998

Added summary on main page. Reduced the number of web pages making up the site and simplified them in order to speed up download times.

Changed initial settings (to give more interesting behaviour). Removed choice box enabling: caused error in MS IE 4 under Windows 95 (was OK on Windows NT 4).

Corrected MS IE 3.0 cab load error by removing all references to cab file from html files, and corrected JIT error by generating all class files using Sun JDK 1.1 javac compiler.

Version 3.0 - 30 Aug 1997

Corrected 'fullColor' checkbox problem when running CA applet using Micosoft's SDK 2.0 beta 2. Should now run under IE 4, if it uses the same Java virtual machine as the SDK.

Version 2.9 - 6 July 1997

Correct problem with running CA applet on Solaris - CA control buttons should now work properly (version 2.8 of CA). Deleted Cab and zip files - will use JAR files instead for future releases.

Version 2.8 - 5 April 1997

Redesigned page layout to use frames and reduce the initial download time. Updated Author details. (No changes to CA applet - still uses version 2.7 of CA.)

Version 2.7 - 15 Jan 1997

(Updated to use version 2.7 of CA: user can now optionally reduce the number of colors drawn to screen - gives a big improvement in update rate for some systems/browsers. Increased the maximum lifespan from 511 to 2043 for the SRLRule. Cleaned up some loose ends in the source code (and put in javadoc stuff), which has cut down the amount of code (and class download sizes).)

Compiled class files to cabinet and zips file for faster download when using MSIE 3 and Netscape Navigator 3.

Added some links to Java friends.

Improved page links - should now be able to move around within the same page without the it reloading each time.

Version 2.6 - 4 Jan 1997

Minor improvements to wording and layout of the home page. Added more information about plans. Added history HTML page and link. Added access counter to full sized CA web page.

(Updated to use version 2.6 of CA: implemented death propagation for connected wire cells. Added initial loop which grows two sides every cycle, and two children. This is better for colony growth than the three or four child loops. Made some other minor improvements to initial loops so they are more robust under mutation. Improved SRL rule update rate. Implemented RuleView classes allowing rule parameters to be set. Made improvements to UI and added a generation count.)

Amended text to describe rule parameters, plus other minor text changes. Increased applet dimensions.
